The Wisconsin School Counseling Association (WSCA) announced at their annual conference that five school counseling programs have earned the2014 SPARC-W Program of Promise Award. Two of the five schools awarded were from Western Wisconsin: The School District of Elmwood and Hudson’s EP Rock Elementary. Elmwood was the first 4K-12 school to receive this award in the state. Each school provided evidence of the effectiveness of their comprehensive programs, outlining student improvements made as a result of school counseling.
The SPARC-W – Support Personnel Accountability Report Card for Wisconsin – is an evaluative process endorsed by WSCA since 2007. It offers a framework for school counselors to outline specific programming which impacts student performance in each of the school counseling domains: Career, Academic and Personal/Social. The process also requires counseling programs to identify gaps in student performance and establish goals to work toward closing these gaps.
School counselors accepted this award on behalf of their schools at the WSCA Conference at Madison’s Monona Terrace on February 20, 2014.
