School Publications and Online Course Options
Based on the Elmwood MS/HS Handbook Policy, adopted by the Board of Education, all students must be enrolled in 3.5 credits per semester and 7 credits per year. This would be a total of 7 classes per semester. Modifications have been made to the schedule to provide additional opportunities for the students.
First, a modification has been made to allow all students to enroll into School Publications. This class will be developing/creating an online school newspaper as well as creating the yearbook. The class will be offered 1st - 3rd hours with Mrs. Knegendorf. Like past years, there is a survey that students will need to fill out if interested in taking School Publications. The purpose of the survey is to not determine who is in the class, but rather for the teacher to better understand your strengths and interests. This will allow the teacher to better prepare for the first day and the entire year. Previously there was a pre-requisite of desktop publishing, but this is no longer required to enroll into this class. Please see the school website or contact the school to complete the survey. The survey is to better understand you in the following areas:
- Personal Strengths
- Personal Interests
- Commitment Level
- Ability to work with others
- Leadership Qualities
- To gather new ideas for School Publications
The school does have the right to reserve this to a limited number of seats and may be limited to Juniors and Seniors. If you have any other questions regarding School Publications please contact Mrs. Knegendorf at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Another option that you may be interested in would be to take a course through edmentum Plato Courseware, a virtual schooling option. Online courses provide flexibility in the schedule to take it when it fits your schedule. Online courses can be good, but may not be suitable for all students. Generally they are self-driven and you, the learner, must have the motivation to do this on your own. If this interests you please download the appropriate documents of information or contact the school to request a hard copy of the information or if you have any other questions.
