HEALTH ALERT
To: Parents and Guardians of students at Elmwood School:
There have been multiple cases of CONJUNCTIVITIS (PINK EYE) reported in the Elementary through High School classrooms. If your child complains of the symptoms below, they may have conjunctivitis as well and their primary physician should be contacted.
Conjunctivitis Symptoms:

Redness in one or both eyes
-
Itchiness in one or both eyes
-
A gritty feeling in one or both eyes
-
A discharge in one or both eyes that forms a crust during the night that may prevent your eye or eyes from opening in the morning

Tearing
If your child does develop conjunctivitis, they should NOT attend school or daycare until they have been receiving treatment for 24 hours.
You can prevent conjunctivitis from spreading by practicing proper handwashing with soap and water and/or the use of alcohol based hand rubs, not letting them touch their eyes with their hands, and encouraging them not to share personal items (such as towels, washclothes, and personal eye care items).

There have been multiple cases of STREP THROAT reported in the Elementary classrooms. If your child complains of the symptoms below, they may have strep throat as well and their primary physician should be contacted.
Strep Throat Symptoms:

sore throat
-
fever
-
headache
-
nausea
-
loss of appetite
-
tender and/or swollen glands in neck
-
rash
If your child does develop strep throat, they should NOT attend school or daycare until they have been on the antibiotic for 24 hours.
You can prevent strep throat from spreading by practicing proper handwashing with soap and water and/or the use of alcohol based hand rubs, covering their mouth when they cough or sneeze, and encouraging them not to share personal items (such as drinking glasses and eating utensils).
