Hola! I'm Nancy Wellington, and I teach Spanish. I graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College with majors in music and biology, later becoming certified in teaching ESL: English as a Second Language. In 2004-05 I earned a minor in Spanish from UW-RF and the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Mexico; I have also traveled with students and spent time with friends in Spain and Costa Rica. I continue to attend conferences and workshops to learn ways to teach foreign languages more effectively. In our Spanish classes, we learn by moving, telling stories, reading, singing and acting, as well as by doing written practice.  During second semester, students in some classes also use their skills by preparing and teaching short Spanish lessons for an elementary class every week.

My husband, David, and I live in Spring Valley. We have two children: Carl, who lives in Pittsburgh with his wife, Jenny and their daughter, Sarah; and Sonia, who lives in Seattle.

In my free time, I enjoy hiking, bicycling, watching Spanish TV, and music. I also love to experience different countries and cultures and share these experiences with my students! (In addition to traveling through much of Scandinavia and Europe, I have also studied, lived or worked in former Yugoslavia, Korea, and Latvia.) As our world becomes smaller and more closely interconnected, it's ever more important for our young people to learn how to communicate and work with people from other places and cultures. I'm very grateful to be able to work with the wonderful students, families and staff of the Elmwood School District. Gracias!
