CURRENT EVENTS - (9-12) (1 credit) Offered every other year - offered '07-'08. This class will follow local, national and world events through readings, video footage and the Internet. Students will demonstrate understanding through discussion, short written assignments and tests. Each quarter there is a written paper due. This paper is a substantial part of the quarter grade.
WORLD GEOGRAPHY - (9-12) (1 credit) Purpose is to help students develop certain basic skills in geography. Examples are map reading, map making and interpretation of such and a technical vocabulary of geography. The course also introduces students to important geographic, economic and political concepts from various countries which in future years will aid students pursuing their interest in the people and countries of the world.
WORLD HISTORY - (9-12) (1 credit) Offered every other year - offered '06-'07. Covers a brief story of the world from ancient to modern times. The course provides a basic knowledge of past events, while showing the importance and relationship to the present and future. A unit on Greek Mythology will also be a part of this class.
AMERICAN HISTORY - (10) (1 credit) (Required) Growth and development of the United States traced from the Civil War to the present day modern America.
CONTEMPORARY STUDIES - (12) (1 credit) (Required) 1st semester - Studying the problems that face society today. Racism, deviance and psychology will be among the topics covered. 2nd semester ‑ Study how our government is structured, how our laws and social rules affect the individual, and how the American system can be used to an individuals advantage. Also included is a unit on Wisconsin politics and government.
