BAND - (9-12) (1 credit) Open to any student with a desire to perform on a musical instrument. Includes Concert Band, Marching Band & Pep Band. Concert Band features four concerts per year featuring a variety of musical styles, composers and repertoire. Marching Band performs during the UFO Days Parade as well as the Homecoming Parade and half-time show of the Homecoming football game. Other parade participation varies upon the year and schedule. Pep Band includes performing "Pop" style music at football, volleyball, and basketball games as well as Pep Rallies. Other band activities include Solo/Ensemble and Large Group Festival. Students may also participate in group or one-on-one band lessons. A variety of Honors Band Concert Groups around the state are also performance opportunities for interested students. Every four years the high school band goes on a trip to Florida where they sight see and play a concert at Disney World. They also have many fundraisers to earn money for the trip. The most known one is the poinsettia sale around Christmas.
CHORUS - (9-12) (1 credit) In this course students will learn to sight read music at a basic level, correct posture, good breath support and tone, correct pronunciations and dictations, the ability to sign and understand different languages, express emotion through music, many different musical genres, confidence to sing by themselves and the ability to sing in a large group. This includes four concerts, Solo/Ensemble, vocal jazz, swing choir, and graduation performances.
