ENGLISH 9 - (1 credit) "The 3 R's – “Reading, Writing, and Reciting” - short stories, dramas, poetry, novels, and videos are used as spring boards for reading, writing, and speaking activities and projects. Grammar, sentence mechanics and usage worksheets and weekly journal writing.
ENGLISH 10 - (1 credit) This course emphasizes advanced sentence and paragraph structure. Composition of paragraphs and essays. Vocabulary building. Intense literature study and speeches.
ENGLISH 11 - (1 credit) This course emphasizes writing and literature. Heavy emphasis on fundamentals of punctuation and spelling and vocabulary development. Must already have had English 9 and English 10.
ENGLISH 12 - GENERAL - (1 credit) (Placement in this class is by teacher & counselor recommendation) Reading: novel(s), drama, short stories and selected nonfiction - Writing: weekly writing topics, job and school applications, resume - Misc.: mock interview, vocabulary study.
ENGLISH 12 - COLLEGE - (1 credit) Geared for those pursuing further education. Emphasis on English literature - Chaucer, Shakespeare/Drama Novel. Advanced writing, career portfolio, writing portfolio, literary analysis, research paper, effective writing techniques. Outside reading required.
